With summer on the horizon, I decided that it was finally time to get myself a sunscreen that I actually like. My earliest memories of sun cream recall a sticky texture, a horrible smell, and a greasiness that lasts all day long. This has plagued me for years and has made me really quite apprehensive when it comes to sun creams, which means I haven’t been wearing one daily, ever (I’m sure this will upset a lot of people). The sun is shining, however, so I can’t run away from my fears forever. And, if you’re in the UK at the time this is posted, you’ll know that there’s a heatwave on the way! I picked up the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Comfort Sun Lotion in SPF 50+, and today I’d like to review it to show that it is definitely not the sun cream that you may remember putting on as a child.
Specially formulated for sensitive skin, this sun cream is a viable option for all skin types. It’s suitable for sun intolerant skin, is very water-resistant, non-perfumed, non-comedogenic, and very lightweight in consistency. The cream itself (pictured above) isn’t greasy at all, and this was my main fear! I’ve always been very afraid of sun cream as in the past I’ve always used creams that just make my face oily and slippery, which really isn’t comfortable during summer, so it was such a relief to find that this cream is just like applying a moisturiser. It absorbs into the skin really easily and doesn’t leave the skin looking white or cakey, which I know is a concern for a lot of people. Anthelios XL offers photostable protection from both UVB and UVA rays and has an SPF of 50+, meaning that it really will protect your skin to a high level.
The picture above may seem slightly strange, but I wanted to emphasise how quickly absorbed this sun cream is. I actually put way more cream on my hand for this picture than I meant to, yet the big blob of cream was still readily absorbed leaving no greasiness. After using this cream for a few weeks now, I can say that this offers stable protection from the sun (you do need to reapply it, however, much like other sun creams), without being too heavy on the skin. Your face will still feel fresh and awake instead of bogged down by grease. Coupled with the lightweight texture of the lotion, it also has a very minimal scent which is due to the lack of perfume in the product itself. This shows that the makers of this cream prioritise protecting (sensitive) skin over things like fancy scents. I’d also like to add that using this sun cream before concealer is great! The cream enables the concealer to blend nicely into my skin without appearing dry or cracked.
If you suffer from sensitive skin, or you’re looking for a product that won’t clog your pores, then I highly recommend this product by La Roche-Posay. It is available to purchase from Boots (UK) for £10.50, which is a reasonable price to pay for a product that provides a high level of protection without sacrificing consistency.
